UPDATE FROM THE KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY TEAM
Thanks for all the help the Sunday School and Preschool kids gave us with the Kairos "love notes" and "placemats". We can't tell you how much this all means to the guys. When we told them that the placemats were theirs to keep, a lot of them took them off the table and put them under their chair so they wouldn't get dirty.
One of the guys at my table got a placemat made by "Zoe" from Messiah. With an uncommon name like that, it seems like a "God Incident", but another resident at our table had a child by the same name.
In regard to the "love notes", we team members all write each resident a letter also. In total each resident got 42 letters. This is really important because this is the only mail they ever get that is not already opened. They trust Kairos. Before they get their mail, we team members leave the area. Only the Chaplin and our team leader stay, because this is quite an emotional time for some of the residents. Our team leader said that all the letters really touched the guys, but the ones that really got to them were the ones from the kids. They even shared them with each other.
With cookies, crayons and some paper we really touched the prisoners. Thanks to everyone who participated!
